In the fall of 2024, my debut novel, The Ambition, will be released. Over the years, I have published four adult non-fiction books and three children’s picture books, but never a novel. It is not to say that I did not want to publish one. Back in 2017, I tried to publish what I thought was an exciting ethnic story set in Jamaica, but the publishers, small and large, did not respond favourably to my queries, so I set the manuscript aside.
But rejection is a big part of the life of a writer. You never give up. You push on. The Ambition will not be that novel but a thriller crime story. The evaluation of the manuscript boosted my resolve when the editor included these phrases: “well-crafted; intricate plot; pacing bang on; will keep readers engaged.”
In an early review, a fellow author writes: “The Ambition is a riveting story of high-finance business deals, Italian family ties, an illicit romance, and murder. You won’t soon forget Connie, Lorenzo, and the other vivid characters who populate this unique tale.”—Marcia Trahan, author of Mercy.
Dictionary.com defines ambition as: “An earnest desire for some type of achievement or distinction, as power, honor, fame, or wealth, and the willingness to strive for its attainment.”
I will explore several thought-provoking themes in The Ambition in the coming weeks before the release date. I hope the articles will pique your interest and solicit your response.
My books are sold at most major booksellers, including Amazon.com
